This is a fucking great film! Filled with amazing action, thumping great tunes and an all-star ensemble cast.
Written and directed by Edgar Wright, of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz fame, Baby Driver is a fun action/comedy not to be missed.
Ansel Elgort stars as Baby (that’s B-A-B-Y, Baby) and he is a natural fit for this role, something other actors his age may not be able to pull of with as much truth and realism. He is joined by the likes of veterans, Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm and Kevin Spacey who all make for brilliant, sometimes wild criminals. Lily James shines as Baby’s love interest, Debora.
The sound design in particular is to note. There are gun shots times perfectly to the music, and a handful of other story-driver sound elements which really make this film pop.
The soundtrack for this film is masterfully selected and is used to great effect throughout. With car chases, and character movements choreographed to the music, you can’t help but get swept up in the film.
The dynamic car chases are executed with speed and precision and they’re made even more exciting by learning that Ansel did most of his own driving in the film.
If you love action movies, and are fan of the spins which Wright takes on the genres he tackles, you’ll love Baby Driver.
